Nancy Mc Harness

In 2010, Nancy McHarness, her husband Denny and other parents formed Partners for

Schools, a non-profit organization, in Lynden, WA. Their vision was to cultivate

community engagement, to raise hope and inspire student success. During 2013, in

partnership with the school district, they launched the Be the One Today community

mentoring program. Be the One Today connects adults from the community with

students on the middle school and high school campuses every week, in one-to-one

mentoring relationships. Over 200 students have been positively impacted over the last

5 years, and the list of mentors and participating schools is growing.

Nancy likes to describe herself as self-deployed because every day she pursues her

calling as a wife, mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, mentor, and community

visionary without monetary compensation.  For Nancy, contribution is her motivator and

her paycheck. Mother of 4 adult children, grandmother of 1 and married to her one

and only true love for over 36 years, Nancy believes that when we change the life of one

we impact the lives of all.
